We started with a horse-drawn hayride into the farm, followed by hors d'oeuvres, Steam Whistle beer, sugary nuts and great scenery.

Lunch was a 5 course meal featuring Fred's Bread. For those of you who have never had Fred's Bread, let me put it this way: bread has never tasted so good. It's all natural, artisan bread. My favourite of the day: the Red Fife bread sticks - dubbed joysticks - featuring Fred's Bread newest Red Fife collection. They're not even available in stores yet, but they will be soon enough, I'm told. They're slightly salty, with a great crunch. Perfect with Prosciutto (as they were served), on their own, or as dipping sticks.
It goes without saying that I cheated on my detox, but it was fully worth it. Beretta Farms made the most succulent Organic Stuffed Porchetta, and lunch was followed by a wonderful platter of local cheeses. Bliss.
Special thanks to Food Guru and PR person extraordinaire, Mary Luz Mejia, who invited me to this event AND recreated the Fred's Bread website. Also a big congratulations to Andrea Damon Gibson of Fred's Bread. Andrea, who is originally from Aurora, shared her inspiring story of starting the company with passion and her mom's lessons in baking. From borrowing space in friends' kitchens, she has grown the company to what it is now.
Cheers,
J
