I think 2014 is going to be a baby boom. I mean, I don't have any statistical evidence or charting or anything like that, but I personally know more than 6 people due within the first 3 months of the year. Perhaps it's just the time of our lives, but everywhere I look, women are having babies. For many it's their first, and others their second or third.
While I'm not quite at the stage of getting ready for #2, I do remember what it was like planning for #1: the excitement, the nerves, the organization. I was pretty organized for baby, despite her very early arrival. I have to thank my family and friends for helping me get prepared.
When baby is a bit older:

I was so fortunate to have not one, not two, but THREE baby showers to help me prepare for little Isabelle. My friends and family set me up with plenty of pjs, sleepers, baby essentials, diapers, toys and must-have gadgets to start us out. I still use some of these items today and fondly remember who showered me with what gift. I love pulling out Isabelle's old preemie onesies and can hardly remember her that small. She was so tiny!
If you're off to a baby shower this year, here are some of my favourite must-have items for an infant/a mom of an infant:
- books (start baby off right with a library!)
- cozy cotton sleepers that are easy to wash (lots and lots)
- muslin blankets/receiving blankets
- onesies and baby socks
- baby bathtub and all the gear that comes along with it (hooded towel, wash cloths, rubber ducky)
- baby thermometer
- an awesome diaper bag
- playpen/pack and play/swing/seat/bouncy chair
- a video monitor
When baby is a bit older:
- a great high chair
- developmental toys
- comfortable and warm slippers
- a snowsuit for this crazy winter!
- some awesome outfits of course
- walking toys
- more books
We're now in the toddler stage -- everything from puzzles to potties to transitional beds and interactive toys. It's amazing how quickly they grow (and outgrow all this stuff).
It can get overwhelming, but luckily, Sears can help you with all your baby -- and juvenile -- needs. Have you heard of Sears' Baby Room? The Baby Room has everything a mom (or dad) needs to get organized for baby. And if you're planning a baby shower, or attending one, you're in luck because to celebrate 2014, Sears is hosting Baby Days! That means you'll get 15% off almost everything in The Baby Room -- furniture, strollers, monitors and more. Plus, there will be awesome deals on infant apparel, so that's a great excuse for some new digs.
The sale runs January 17-30 and if you're into online shopping like me, click this link and shop away!
Cheers to all the mommies and daddies-to-be this 2014 and all the best for healthy and safe pregnancies and deliveries!
