Create Swoon-Worthy Tablescapes and Centrepieces

I go a little coo-coo for Christmas. I admit it. Especially when it comes to decor. It's amazing how much stuff I can accumulate, only to display it for a month and then pack it away for the rest of the year. I have quite the collection now, in fact, that my rooms have different themes in terms of colouring. What was once white and glittery in my dining room is now mixed metallics (I added copper to the mix this year) and my family room is Cozy Canadiana, reds, faux fur, pine trees and grey felt.

It's easy to go overboard when it comes to holiday decor. It's just all so pretty. What I try to do, though, is to add pieces to my already extension collection that have legs. What do I mean? Buy pieces that aren't just "Christmas"-related, but, can be used at various times of the year. For example, some of my red decor will stay up through Valentine's Day. My faux fur will last all winter long, and as for the mix metallics and glitter, well, I love that anytime.

I mentioned I added copper to my mixed metallics this year. Copper and Rose Gold hues have been huge trends this season, and the tones have made their way through to fashion and home decor. So, I wanted to infuse it into my holiday decor, too. In addition to a few ornaments I placed on the tree, I wanted/needed some table decor to tie it all together.

You can buy many centrepieces or tablescapes already created, but I didn't see one that I liked, so I decided to create it myself. It's not difficult, doesn't have to be expensive and took me all of 30 minutes to put together. I wanted a long and low style arrangement, and again, a style that would last at least a few months. I'm going to show you just how simple it was.



I found beautiful copper coloured porcelain vases for $8 on clearance, and decided instead of doing one, large arrangement, to do 3 together. Designers always say to work in odd numbers: 1, 3 or 5.

In the loose floral section, I found a few pine branches with faux snow and some copper plastic leaves. These can be costly, so buy on sale! When I got home, I pulled apart the branches and cut free some of the pieces that were stuck inside. Before I knew it, I had a pile of pine to fill my copper vases.







I like fullness in my centrepieces, so I worked from the centre outwards and made sure to include some branches with pine cones, white winter berries and glittered holly. As a finishing touch, I cut some small springs of the copper leaf and placed a few in each vase.



I'm loving my tablescape -- it's simple, ties the styles together, and was affordable. Best of all, this style will last through the winter and when I get tired of it, I can save the insides for next season and use the copper vases to hold some fresh, spring blooms. Ah, spring.
