Self-care. It's a buzzword tossed around a lot lately and for good reason. So many of us (men and women alike) are guilty of spending an extensive amount of time and energy on other people and not often enough on ourselves.
At the start of 2018, after my big blow, I made myself a promise that I would devote more time and energy to myself and my own well-being. I may have even said (out loud): "This is the year of Julia." It wasn't a resolution, but definitely a promise. Yes, my promise included eating better and exercising (that'll be a 2019 deal!), but it mainly meant spending more time taking care of myself: getting my nails done, getting regular massages, facials, laser hair removal. Are these luxuries? Absolutely. But it's amazing how when you take time for yourself, you somehow free up time and stress you were carrying. And I'm proud to say I've made good on the majority of my promises to myself.
It's been over a year since I've been visiting Daniela and her team at Freedom Medi-Spa in Woodbridge. I go once a month for laser hair removal (we started on my underarms and upper lip and have now graduated to legs!). I decided to make an investment in myself. The time I spend at the spa is both relaxing and fulfilling; it gives me a chance to really take a break, to talk to another person and to feel good that I've finally done something important for me. All me. And I don't feel guilty about it either. It's ok to be selfish every once and a while.
Daniela and her team at Freedom are both knowledgeable and kind; they are patient and take the time to answer any question I have about laser, electrolysis, facials or whatever new skin invention or trend I see online. I feel like I'm dealing with a team of trustworthy advisors who know the inner workings of my skin and pores (this much I'm certain of!).

Supporting local is really a gift that keeps on giving; in addition to the big box or mall stores, try and make it a plan to support an entrepreneur this holiday season.
