When I come across something new or different, I like to share it with my audience. A few weeks ago, Other Life Lessons sent me their book collection to read to my kids. Other Life Lessons is a small publishing company based in Toronto, Canada founded by Meaghan Hadwyn and Niki Snkaric -- two working moms tired of reading stories about fluffy animals and unicorns to their kids. Sounds familiar.
So they came up with an honest book series to share the often-unspoken truths and struggles all parents face as we grow. Because, as they say, "life is an adventure, we're all exploring it together."
There are three books in the collection: Life's Not Fair, Sometimes Someone Dies, and Why Mommy Works. The books are written simply, in poem-style, making them easy to read and easy to comprehend.
Because we're being honest here, let me spell it out for you: the books don't sugar coat life, but they're important. And when kids keep asking, "Mommy, why do you have to work?", or if someone in your family unexpectedly passes away, you need something to tell your kids.
So yah, maybe not your traditional stocking stuffer, but these books are a must-have for any family with kids. The books are also 100% Made in Canada and a portion of the book sales are donated to children's mental charities. Books can be found at select stores in Toronto, or online. And watch out for a second series coming out in the Spring.
Disclaimer: I received this book series to review. All opinions on my blog are my own.
Wow, those sound different. I love the attitude of the books, I find I have lots of conversations like them with my son especially. Having books that talk plainly and honestly would help support those messages. Thanks for sharing!
