Mother's Day is less than two weeks away, so I pulled together some of my favourite items if you're looking for ideas to give a mom in your life. These are my top 15 (ish -- I couldn't stick to 10 and there are many, many more I could have selected) Mother's Day Gifts for the Modern Mom.
Of course, moms all over will say, "I don't need anything; I just want to spend the day with my family." And while this is 100% true, it's always nice to open up a little surprise!
Note everything in this photo was either purchased, was gifted or received as a press sample. This post does contain some affiliate links.
A beautiful bag: One of my favourite places to buy gifts is Indigo. In addition to thousands of books, you can pick up some great gift items: like pillows (oh, how I love pillows), journals, throw blankets and bags. This floral tote was an add on purchase (I think it was less than $20) and is a beautiful way for the modern mom to haul stuff around. I swear, I'm always carrying 2-3 bags at a time -- you may as well look good. And yes, we really need all these purses.
Books and Journals: Last year, my sister-in-law gifted me The Five Minute Journal, and I've done the same for others. Not just for moms, but it's a great tool to reflect, jot down intentions and gratitude. Also on the list, Cat & Nat's Mom Truths. You may follow them on IG or watch their facebook live, this duo is absolutely hilarious, as well as killing it in the entrepreneur deptm too.
Makeup: Yes, I realize make-up is pretty personal, but it's also pretty glam, too. I'm loving Stila Cosmetics' new Lingerie Souffle. It's like a light-weight foundation that gives you just a sheer layer of colour. I'm colour 1.0, but there are a few tones, as well as an Illuminating Souffle. It's perfect for moms on the go. Also pretty spectacular is this Highlighter Trio. Sweep a teeny bit on the apples of your cheeks and bridge of your nose for instant glow.
Crystals: I personally think crystals are even more personal than make-up, but a gift from Luromondo is special. I've been wearing Rosie's bracelets for years now, and every single one of them is important to me. Giving a gift? Start with something simple like Rose Quartz, which is the stone of love, or Howlite for inspiration and ambition.
Hello, Scrunchies: 'Cause the mom bun is real. I loved scrunchies in the 90s and they're back with a vengeance. You can find scrunchies pretty well everywhere, from the mall to department stores and local markets. Modern moms wear scrunchies and I'm cool with that.
Bold Sunnies: Yes, mom, you can wear cool sunglasses. I love Quay Australia and have amassed quite a collection. Every time I go out, I get compliments on them.
Skincare: I just discovered Pixi Beauty this year and I'm loving their products! You can order online, or in Canada, purchase at Shoppers Drug Mart. Their Rose Caviar Serum is exquisite and the Rose Ceramide Cream is super hydrating and moisturizing. Priced-well and a really nice duo. Sold separately.
Clean: For the eco-mom, CLEAN Beauty is cruelty-free, vegan, green and sustainable. They are known for their fragrances, which are beautiful on their own, or can be layered. I have a fragrance sensitivity and love this Clean Reserve fragrance. Sold online, at Sephora or Nordstom.
Covet: Covet by Stella & Dot is a line of delicate fine jewellery. I've worn my gold and diamond J daily for years now and I still love it. Available in white and yellow gold, with white or black stones, this piece is dainty, great for moms who like simplicity, or even those who want to layer other pieces alongside it. Plus, it's on sale, so click here to order.
Plants and Flowers and Trinkets: I love real flowers, but they don't last very long. There are many companies who are offering dried roses that will last up to 18 months. I received this pretty pale blue one from Everlasting Blooms at an event. I also received a white rose from Gigi Blooms from my sister last year and it's still holding up beautifully. And of course, house plants and succulents -- if your modern mom is into houseplants, but doesn't want to kill them, find something that's pretty low maintenance (and you can ask your local garden centre for suggestions). I picked up these plants at the Mommunity Market from July Peach Florals. Lastly, I love pineapples and this little pineapple is actually a lip balm! I purchased it from Nature's Emporium.
Subscription Box: Last, but certainly not least, and likely the most expensive item on my list, is a subscription box. Donny gifted me Fab Fit Fun a couple years ago for Mother's Day, and I just kept it up cause I loved it so much. It comes quarterly, so you're getting little gifts throughout the year. There are Canadian boxes, Cause Boxes, Home Decor boxes -- so many out there. To order Fab Fit Fun, click here and use the code FIRST BOX to save on your order.
ADD ON -- It's not pictured, but it's priceless. In addition to any of the aforementioned gifts, tack on a gift from the heart. This can be a handwritten note, an afternoon together, an afternoon for her to herself (!), a donation in her name. Sometimes, the best gifts cost nothing at all.
I love giving gifts even more than receiving, and I hope all the moms have a Happy Mother's Day!
