We eat pizza on the regular -- at least once a week. If it's the winter time, it's typically homemade, on a Sunday night, rough cut and enjoyed around the tv.
In the summer though, we typically enjoy our pizza at restaurants or on a patio -- and even on the beach. One day, if space and money permits, we'd love to have an outdoor kitchen, complete with a pizza oven. But until then, we seek out restaurants who can make fabulously fresh, thin-crust pizza.
I was recently invited to Il Porcellino in Mississauga to test out their brand new portable pizza oven. Imported from Italy, this propane-powered pizza oven is available to book for parties, catering and even work functions.
And through the summer months, the family at Il Porcellino is treating customers with instant pizza straight from the parking lot. Reaching temps of 1000 degrees Fahrenheit, it takes 70 seconds to cook a custom personalized pie. We joked that it took longer to assemble the pizza than it did to cook.
And it's delicious. There is just something different and special about hot from the oven Margherita pizza. (There are meat options, too).
So if you're in the mood for fresh, super-soft homemade pizza straight from the oven, follow Il Porcellino online and keep an eye out for when they'll be serving (it's all weather dependent). Or if you're having a summer bbq or party, consider adding a pizza oven to the mix to wow your guests.
Oh, and invite me.
