Missing Canada's Wonderland Famous Funnel Cakes? Make them at home!
Every year around this time, we visit Canada's Wonderland for their season-opening; we ride our favourite rides, see what's new in the park, and typically end our first visit with a funnel cake. While we don't indulge in too many funnel cakes throughout the year, we usually get one on our first and last visits of the year: to commemorate the season, to remember the summer, and, well, cause we won't have them again for 6 months or so. Plus, they're just so. damn. good.
This year, we won't be indulging in our first spring funnel cake at the park. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, Canada's Wonderland's season has been temporarily put on hold. You can read about what Canada's Wonderland is doing to accommodate those who have already bought seasons passes on their website, but basically, all 2020 Seasons Passes will be valid for 2020 and 2021. Well done, CW.
Canada's Wonderland has also given us another gift -- their famous funnel cake recipe!
The recipe is pretty simple -- you only need a few ingredients, and you're making what resembles a pancake batter which you will then drizzle into hot oil.
You can choose to use a funnel, a pitcher or pourer, or, have some fun creating funnel cake roller coasters by pouring the mixture from a squeeze bottle. Here's my take on the Leviathan! For this activity, we asked the kids to stand back -- the oil can splatter, but the kids had a great time drizzling the icing sugar on top. Canada's Wonderland'ss recipe also includes instructions on how to make the Strawbery glaze, but to tell you the truth: I never get it with the glaze anyway, so I skipped that step.
Enjoy!
