Dog Food Fit for Rex

Dogs are very honest. They tell you when they're happy, they let you know when they're tired, when they want to snuggle and even when they're sceptical of a situation or person.

Our dog, Rex, has always been expressive; at 10 years old, he's alert, aware and so, so smart.

Last year, we got a delivery from Coco's Pet Kitchen -- a Vaughan-based company that offers a subscription-based meal service for pets. They specialize in real food for pets, prepared in a human-grade kitchen, cooked and delivered directly to your door.

Ann started the company after her own dog got sick. She changed his diet and was able to change his lifestyle. Ann became convinced that eating the right food could promote a pet's health and well-being. So, Coco's Pet Kitchen was born, and Ann has spent decades speaking with doctors and perfecting her recipes.

When we got that first delivery, months ago, Rex jumped up and down at the bag before I even opened it. Now, you're going to say: "He's a dog! He smells food." Fair enough.

And Rex is a sneaky dog, at that -- and we would never leave a plate of food unattended near him -- but this was different; he was genuinely excited for what was inside. As soon as I opened the turkey-based meal, he devoured it.

Fast-forward a couple of months later and we got another order -- this time with a medley of proteins: lamb, turkey, beef. I kid you not: every single time we open the bag or get his food bowl ready, he's either chasing us around the kitchen or waiting, licking his lips. A bowl of kibble could sit there for hours. Coco's Pet Kitchen meals are eaten immediately.

Now, I'm not a scientist or a doctor, so I can't give you a medical reason why my dog is reacting this way. But, like I said, dogs are honest beings. Rex obviously loves this food.

Coco's Pet Kitchen prepares meals that are 100% fit for human consumption. If you looked at the container closely, you could identify what's inside -- it's all real food. They don't add any additives or preservatives. The food is cooked in a way that maintains the nutrients and the meals can be frozen and thawed for later use.

Coco's Pet Kitchen works on a subscription basis -- and is delivered right to your door. No lines, no headaches, no need to social distance. Right now, there is a 14-day trial package available, as well as 25% off a new subscription. Plus, you're supporting a small, local business. For details, visit their website.

Let me know what you -- and your pet -- think of Coco's Pet Kitchen. I know we can't wait to give Rex his next meal.
