Do you cancel on yourself? Do you push aside your personal commitments to accommodate others?
It's something I'm working on.
Everywhere we look, there are messages stressing the importance of self-care, work-life-balance, healthy minds, and yet, I know I'm not the only one who will cancel or shift her personal appointments -- that includes the gym, an outing, an afternoon of quiet -- only to replace with work, meetings or something of this nature.
This week, I caught myself.
I had a much-needed (and much-deserved) massage booked, well in advance. I was asked to join a meeting. But I didn't budge. I didn't offer to shift. Instead, I offered alternate times. My appointment was important, for my physical and mental well-being.
I think, as a business owner, there is often fear of a lost opportunity. And as a mom, I'm used to putting others first. But it's taken me a long time to realize the importance of saying "no", and committing to myself as much (or more) than I commit to others.
So, I ask you: do you cancel on yourself?
