Let me tell you about our favourite stay on our trip to Italy: Masseria Soluco, in Gorgofreddo, Puglia.
A masseria is a fortified farmhouse, and this one dates back to the 15th Century. Il Soluco stretches over 5 hectares (12 acres) of almond and olive trees, citrus and pomegranates groves.
We chose to stay inland, away from a busy town, as this would be our home base in Puglia, centrally located near Monopoli in the Valle D’Itria and easy to access many other towns (only 20-25 min away). And we were wowed in so many ways.
From the moment we arrived, the owner, Ivan, was a most gracious host. He greeted us and helped us to our room, gave us a tour of the grounds, and treated us to homemade goodness: focaccia Pugliese, homemade olives, fresh almonds from their own trees, juice, bubbles, and beautiful company.
The grounds themselves are immaculate; impeccably clean and with a rich history all around.

As this is a B&B, breakfast was included and the spread was vast, from fresh crostata and cornetti to salumi and the best mozzarella I’ve eaten in my life. When the temperature was unbearable, the in-ground pool was a nice treat, and there were always fresh pears in a basket if you wanted a snack.
I highly recommend a stay if you want a peaceful and quiet rest after days of touring. My only regret is we didn’t stay longer.
(*it should be noted that this stay was not sponsored in any way, but I do believe in supporting businesses that go above and beyond and deserve the attention. And I would definitely go back!)
